So You Want to Know About Me?
Let's get the boring stuff out of the way first. I was born and raised in Lemon Grove, CA a suburb of San Diego. I moved to L.A. in 2002 and began my professional photo journey at LACC which led me to Art Center College of Design where I became the first of my family to graduate from college. It was with a BFA in Photography & Imaging. I still live in L.A. and I have two dogs, no tv, a studio apartment, and live what some call a bohemian lifestyle.
Ok now the good stuff.....How did I get into photography? I always knew I wanted to be a photographer, though in high school and early in my college career I was much more concerned with taking the appropriate academic classes and getting good grades. I looked around and saw images that I wanted to remember, especially while driving. I take pictures because I want to remember, that's my driving force behind my creativity and subject matter I choose. I especially love concerts and bands, which led me to Demolisten.
At Demolisten I took what was an already popular web & radio show and made it even more awesome! I integrated lighting for the bands who played live as well as multiple cameras, still photos for the blog, and video playlists of crazy stuff that viewers could watch during the radio sets between the djs talking. In time Demolisten became bigger than me, and with my effort completed, I left and continued shooting editoriallly with consistant gigs shooting dining reviews.
I'm not a foodie, and I don't cook or have the gas turned on for my stove to cook (I guess that's why some think I live a bohemian lifestyle). Growing up my dad worked at Square Pan Pizza and every day I would ask him to bring some pizza home. My first job my junior year of high school was at Mrs. Fields Cookies, and I have many years experience as a barista as well. I make a mean cappucino, it says so in my resume. So with all this food in my life, shooting dining reviews and restaurants was a natural direction for my photography work to go. You can see my pics in Pasadena Weekly, CityBeat Long Beach, and more.
Well I think that's it. I could go on and on about sneaking cameras in Cure shows, making my way to the front row at Morrissey concerts from way in the back, and all sorts of stuff, but you'll have to wait for the book for those stories.
Thanks a bunch! And if you read all the way this far, you get a gold star
